[Q.7.] I’m new to UBC. Can you bring me up to speed on the Sunset Drive property?
[A.7.] Briefly, the story of our relocation began when in 1991 UBC secured the right to purchase an 18 acre site located on SW 72nd Street (Sunset Drive) and 73rd Court. In 1994 we paid off the balance and today own it free and clear. The church purchased it with a heart to keep on growing in ministry and outreach and make more room for all who will come. In February of 1997 the Dade County Commission granted the zoning required for us to proceed with our construction project. For the next eight years we persevered through legal challenges and on Oct 1, 2004 emerged with final reaffirmation of our right to proceed. Along the way we also acquired 2 more acres contiguous with our site, giving us a total of 20. Now we are completing the pre-construction phase, including the permitting process and site preparation in anticipation of construction. Pro-videntially, the Sunset site is located more conveniently in the geographical center of the area where the majority of people served by UBC live, with close access to the Palmetto Expressway. The longer version is truly a story of God’s hand at work, providentially opening doors and blessing in powerful ways to make this journey possible.
